This is going to sound very odd, but has anyone seen my turtle?

Horatio does not appear to be in his tank.

ETA: Uhhh... how precisely are Catseye's clothes appearing and disappearing as she shifts? I just saw her do it, in the hall...

Have you checked the class attendance? Perhaps he changed into a student and is sitting in on English Comp or something.

What? It happens with CATS around here...

Hah, hah. Horatio is not a mutant turtle. He does not shapeshift.

Then again, I didn't think he could open the lid of his tank, either.

How do you know? Maybe he shoots fire out his cloaca and is orbiting the school right now like a miniature Gamera. Or he's teleported into the lake, or has possessed Mister Dayspring or something.

...

or maybe I shouldn't have had three Mountain Dews this morning. Whooo...

Mountain Dew should always be used with a great deal of caution.

And anything Hank tells you about how I lived on the stuff while doing my engineering degree is a load of crap. Really.

Indeed.

Please? He's just a tiny little thing - I hate to think of all the trouble he could get into wandering around on his own.

I'll come get his scent from the tank and see what I can do. Although if at any point he was wandering around being carried instead of on his own, I'll probably run into some trouble. On the other hand, with any luck I'll be able to get an idea who might have moved him, and we can ask if they haven't checked the journals yet.

And I'll just stop thinking onscreen and start sniffing, shall I?

Biochemically-triggered mimetic polycellular fabric. I was bored the other day.

It's amazing stuff, thank you. Now I want to see if I can get it to adapt to certain power signatures - make it so that some of the energy-projectors around here don't have to worry about setting their clothes on fire.

It all makes sense when you start understanding them, I told you:

Biochemically triggered - remember that you sweat a little when you change? Well, there's a hormone in it that the clothing reacts to. Thus-

Mimetic - the structure of the material has a sort of memory. It's why it can go from collar to clothing so fast.

Polycellular - what it's made of. Feels like silk, wears like cotton, but it's one solid piece instead of a weave.

Really, Catseye. I swear you'll have a head for science one of these days.

It's nothing that amazing, really. When you think about it, most textiles have a default state - all it took was convincing the material to hold two "defaults", and accept a biochemical trigger to shift between them. The fact that the stuff doesn't wrinkle was an unexpected side effect.

Turtle, hitchhiking?

Date: 2005-01-21 01:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-rahne.livejournal.com
I believe I managed to trace the turtle out along the edges of the corridors for quite a way. He seems to have been heading in the general direction of the kitchen when his trail ends abruptly with similar-aged scents of several of the younger children, including Miles, Artie, Leyu, Leong, Nga, Glynnis, Fred, and Marcia. Someone might be trying to figure out where he belongs without having checked the journals, or something -- can turtles ask for snacks?

There are a lot of other scents in the area. I'm not entirely sure it was one of them, but I think they were all in the same general place at the time his trail ended.

(OOC: Will remove if anyone objects.)

Oh dear. That lot are some of Lockheed's favorite feeders. Mr. Summers, your turtle may not be a little guy when he is returned to you.
