So I just talked to Warren and he wanted me to let everyone know that his work at the law firm in the city is really starting to pile on and is taking up pretty much all of his time these days. So he's gonna be stuck there for the foreseeable future and wanted to make sure no-one thought he'd dropped off the face of the earth.

In case anyone missed us Jean and I are holidaying in Italy over the new year.

Please don't blow up the mansion, or invite a super-villain to stay, or you know, do anything I wouldn't do.

We'll be checking our mail, so let us know if you need us in an emergency. IF anything happens while we're gone Logan can handle it...I can't believe I just said that. Being on holiday is obviously doing weird things to my head.

So with classes at the school starting up again on the 3rd of September I thought I'd just remind everyone that you need to buy any books and supplies that you'll need.

For anyone who hasn't yet completed their back to school shopping yet I'm planning on taking a minibus to go buy up some new textbooks and supplies for the school if anyone wants a ride.

Jean and I will be going out to dinner tonight. We'll have our phones with us in case of an emergency, You know the mansion burning down that kind of thing; but only for emergencies.

Hope everyone has a good night.

Just to let you all know, Vance Atrovik has decided to move over to the West Coast Annex in order to focus on his powers training and for a change of scenery.

It's been a week and I'm still washing colored powder of my hair.

Whoever dropped that balloon on me owes me a new bottle of shampoo, that stuff is a nightmare to get out.
xp_cyclops: (gah)
Whoever left the Pulse Plugs outside the door, thank you thank you thank you!

If anyone needs me I'll be in the garage today working on my bike.

Lorna and I are headed to Hawaii this weekend for Alex's birthday. I'll have my phone in-case anything drastic happens, but I haven't seen my brother in a while and couldn't miss the opportunity.

I just saw the pirate mouse missing a leg scuttling around in the garage.

I know some crazy things happen around here, but I just want to know if this is another stunt by Pyro to get his hands on my car or if dear old dad has finally lost his marbles and is recruiting mice into the Starjammers now.

The Return

After almost 2 years away in California I've finally returned to the mansion. Well technically I got back to the mansion last night, and managed to surprise my wife. You people seriously  have no idea how hard it is to surprise a psychic. I'm back at the mansion now; if anyone wants to catch up you'll probably find me in the garage. Got to get my babies back into shape.

To those who don't know me, I'm Cyclops, you probably have me to thank for some of the danger room scenarios you've been running through. You'll all be happy to know that I've brought back my latest batch of programs with me for more danger room goodness.

A poll.

Since I can't in fact spend all my free time in the garage this summer, what should my other August project be? I'm leaning towards writing a small, instructional handbook. Which prospective title sounds best?

A) "How Not To Use The Danger Room: A Self-Help Manual"
B) "Welcome to the X-Men (Here's How You Survive The Experience Without Getting Culled For The Good of The Group)"
C) "Zen and the Art of Not Assaulting Your Coworkers"
D) "Scotch, Redheads and Very Fast Motorcycles: Coping Strategies From The Trenches"

I shall be spending the afternoon letting a surgeon with a South African accent rearrange my knee in ways I prefer not to think about too closely. The explanation involved cutting and scraping and... yeah, going to stop right there.

Maybe if I pout really, really convincingly, Jean will buy me an ice cream cone on a way home.

Jean and I are off to the airport - we shouldn't be gone for any more than a few days. Got an odd phone call from my father, so I suppose this classes as 'family business'. Don't worry, Alex, the old man didn't start a gang war or anything - if you can catch me before we head out, I'll explain. If not, I'll call from our first layover. (Yes, first. There are going to be a number of them. This is not apparently the season to be flying to Madripoor at the last minute.)
xp_cyclops: (still going)
... but apparently I'm not possessed of sufficient restraint tonight. Here's the thing, folks. I will freely admit that we cannot always protect everyone living in this house. That would be because we're not all-powerful and all-seeing. I will also admit that there have been times that having the X-Men based out of the school has actually brought more danger to our door. That would be why we're forthright about the risks, and leave the decision of whether or not you want to take them in the hands of yourselves (and your parents, where applicable).

We train your powers. We train you in self-defense, and how to work in a team. The only way that training could be taken further is to turn you, and this school, into one of the very things the X-Men fight to stop on a regular basis. I don't think I'm the only one who'd be walking away if it ever came to that.

The truth is, you are all better equipped than the vast majority of the population to deal with the vast majority of situations. A number of you have proven that repeatedly. I'm sorry that your preparation and our protection sometimes falls short, but here's the other thing; all the training in the world doesn't ever banish the fear that colors those moments. Figuring out how to live with that is something we all have to do for ourselves, because that can't be taught.

So I know what I'm going to be doing in the morning. I don't think any Danger Room sessions after noon tomorrow will need to be cancelled, but, well. I'll keep you all informed.

Phillip's recovering nicely, and I think he's accepted that the way to make sure that keeps happening is to keep resting and recovering and let the airline take care of itself. Apparently my father's going to hang around for another few weeks and help out with that, so. At least he's making himself useful?
xp_cyclops: (concerned)
Alex and I got some not-so-good family news this morning - our grandfather's had a heart attack, so the two of us and Jean are catching the next flight to Anchorage. We'll keep in touch, but obviously I can't say when we'll be back.

So. Joy.

xp_cyclops: (what was that?)
Alex and I are expecting a visit from our father, starting Thursday or thereabouts. Since he's a pirate who's legally dead, I suppose it took him a while to arrange a flight here from Madripoor.

So if you see a man with a ridiculous-looking mustache wandering around this weekend, that would be who it is.
xp_cyclops: (oh really)
I really am ridiculously tired this week, for no good reason - it's not like we're in mid-crisis, and given that we're on the verge of spring break, the administrative work's been quieter. I just wish I could justify jumping on a plane and going somewhere equatorial. Sunlamps just don't cut it.

Right, so.

Everyone who has class with either Jean or I tomorrow, you're apparently getting a four-day weekend. I've been kidnapped, but it's the good kind of kidnapping. I find I have absolutely no desire to protest. We'll be back when we're back.
