[I wasn't going to make this public. I started to, and then I stopped, and tried to let cooler heads prevail. It didn't work.]

I'm not one for idle conversation.

I'm also not a person who speaks when they don't have all the information, and aren't sure of the situation.

Apparently, to some people at this school, this is the equivalent of treating them like children.

I guess I have been keeping secrets then, simply because I haven't been talking. I haven't been speaking up first.

I hereby apologize to each and every person at this school for my behavior.

I am not social. I am not a people person. Logan once said I was a dick. He wasn't wrong.

However, in an attempt to mend fences and in the interest of not alienating students any MORE, I hereby offer to answer any question put to me as honestly and truthfully as I am able. And tell you if I am not able to answer that. Even why, if I can.

It's a step. A step toward opening up. Toward not treating you like children.

Take it.

Shiro,

I believe it is Alex's intention to stay away from the school for a time.

Contrary to what some people think, we do not hold anyone here against their will. Parents, on the other hand, may have different feelings on the matter.

I would ask that you check with Professor Xavier. He was keeping an eye, as it were, on Alex.

Me, I've been hoping he'd come back on his own. But this may not be the place for him.

Questions? How did they get in? How did they get so /far/ in?

You'll need to be specific on the they, Marie.

But if you are referring to Pete's ex-employers, considering he gave them the plans for attacking the school, I would assume they used his plans.

Yes, Pete's ex-employers, as that's the most recent event. Has Pete been kind enough to tell us where the flaws that he shared with them can be found? I was hoping for specifics, like they shut down a breaker or teleported or something. My wild assumption is that the entry routes from Stryker's forces were attended to in the past.

Let's just be clear about this: I did not give them the sodding plans for this building, although it wouldn't have been hard for them to get hold of them. I wrote a briefing memo on strategies that would be effective in certain situations against this school. Which is, in a lot of ways a whole lot bloody worse, but I'd like to be done for the crimes I *did* commit, rather than the ones I didn't.

Not that I'm not wild about this free exchange of information but could we possibly be doing it someplace that isn't easily accessible to every sob-story that walks in off the street? Call it a wish to make it a little more difficult for the next guy compiling a report on how to break us into little pieces.

I asked Pete, in the staff journal, for advice on making this place more secure.

When you've got access, you can go and look. Speaking of which, I'll take care of that detail now. Do you want to wait for a farewell message, or shall I just authorize the change?

why do I have to ask Hank's permission for an image inducer every time I want to leave this place?

one day he might say "no, Clarice, you ahven't finished your Algebra so you can't go" and he'll KNOW because I have to get permission to leave and no one else my age does beyond finding a driver.

Image inducers are not toys. They are several thousand dollars each of precision electronic equipment constructed from an original patented design of Dr. McCoy's. Nor are they easily replaceable equipment. Each one was created by Dr. McCoy. He gets to decide who gets to use them, and who doesn't.

Besides, if you broke one he would likely cry.

And that is not a pretty sight.

Mr. Summers-

As far as I'm concerned, you have nothing to apologize for. Nobody knew about Mr. Wisdom's employers until it happened, and you can't be blamed for something you didn't know about. As far as I'm concerned, you've always been up front and honest with me, and I don't feel that you've treated me like a child. Including that project you wanted me for. So. Like I said, you haven't alienated me.

Anything else about the people or the place that we ought to know? Along the lines of is there anyone else with mob connections or pissed off former employers? It's easier to duck if yer know where the next blows coming from.

An I'm leaving me protection spell up, just in case. Won't work on guns an armour - metal's tricky, fucks up the magic - but it'll warn me if anyone else tries to get in with less than happy intentions. Not those Jehovah's bastards, tho' - they're chock-full of good intentions. :P

Thank you for the protection spell, Amanda. Every little bit helps at this point, I believe.

As for mob connections or pissed off former employers, as far as I am aware - no. If someone else has information, they haven't spoken to me about it.

You may or may not be aware of this: The journaling system was put in place last year before an attack from the government, in an attempt to get at Professor Xavier and some of the equipment that is here. If you browse back through the earliest posts, you'll see what I am talking about.

I'm sure there are other things that just haven't occurred to me to mention. If I think of them, I'll be sure to post.

How do you define "connections"?

Out of curiosity, what exactly is wrong with treating children like children?

Re:

Date: 2004-02-04 03:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-rogue.livejournal.com
The short answer to your question is: A great deal.

Childhood is a state of innocence and often ignorance, Mr. Marko, not a function of physical age. Since most of the young people here seem to have been liberated from that state, attempting to impose it on them again is hardly going to be healthy or effective. After a refractory period of resource evaluation, assimilation of knowledge, and the reconstruction of trust in the protective framework of the adults around them, most young people will naturally seek to return to the normative state of 'childhood'. However, ignoring the fact that innocence and ignorance has been stripped away, even going so far as to patronize, is a betrayal in and of itself and reduces the likelihood of repairing trust bonds and the healthy facade that the mind maintains to protect a growing person until they can protect themselves.

While the archaic idea that 'treating children like children' may appeal, it is nothing less than ineffective in the face of serious traumatic episodes. I can loan you a text on the issue if you like.

I have a question. What does it mean to be an X-Man at this school? When I was upgrated to the team, I thought that I would be able to go on missions and change the world, however it seems like all we do is sit around and teach. Teaching obviously is necessary, but it's not why I came to this school.

I understand my mistake in not informing the Professor or anyone else about my ties to the mafia. I just wish people wouldn't shake fingers so quickly. Since my secret is already out, I'd like to see you tell everyone whom you want their trust and respect that you killed you brother or something. It's not that simple.

I'm...I'm sorry to vent on you Mr. Summers. Thanks for listening.
