I went for a run.
Did some school paperwork.
I programmed one training scenario, went over three tapes of other scenarios.
Marked some late assignments.
Some more paperwork.
Did an hour in the gym.
Watched a training run.
Debriefed after the run.
Wrote up my thoughts.
Read and commented on crossevaluations from the last run.
Did more paperwork.
Spent two hours in the gym.
Did a training run of my own.
Wrote up my own evaluation.
Watched the newsfeeds while I did some more paperwork.
Updated the threat database.
Did some more paperwork.

I just moved from one thing to the other, and... you know, every single one of them felt absolutely pointless. Someone needs to built a Scott-automaton to do all these things, because it would probably be more efficient. Or maybe I'm an automaton already, I don't know. I certainly feel like one.

Remember what we talked about...and you can always pawn off some paperwork on others. Maybe what you need is an assistant. Actually, what you need is a vacation, but maybe you'll be more willing to get someone to help out.

That sounds like a really good idea, Marie. It would be ideal for someone just learning the ropes, I think.

I have an assistant. Hi, Dani. But her I have to pay overtime.

Clearly she either isn't getting enough of your work because you're a control freak (very likely) or you have more than she can help with and she needs an assistant for things.

I was away for two whole days this week, remember? What, you don't think I pull 19-hour days regularly, do you?

Do you want me to answer that or shall I just pull up your timelogs?

Oh, my timelogs? My timelogs don't say what anything thinks they say. My timelogs are beyond time and space. No, really. I hid them.

So you admit that you have something to hide!

Of course I have something to hide. I like my coffee unflavored by sedatives. It's this funny little prejudice of mine.

This is me. As if I'd do that to coffee.

Ok, first of all...I'm talking personal assistant, not just school assistant. Dani is responsible for more than just doing stuff for you. But yes, I imagine you do make a regular occurrence of 19-hour days. I have a few free days next week that are yours. I need something to keep me busy, so really, you'll be doing me a favor.

... maybe I could get ahead, with help. Ahead would be good. If everything was all in order, then whatever happens next wouldn't matter because we'd be ahead on the paperwork.

Or an XO who winds up with a cranky cuss of a CO when he tries to steal all the paperwork and leave him with nothing to do.

Incidentally, in case I forgot to mention it earlier, it's good to have you back, Marie.

I don't mean to be cranky. I'm sorry. Just don't steal the paperwork. If you don't have enough to do I'll give you some, but if things start getting done out of order I'll lose track.
