Even so, I think I've selected a good term project for the shop class. We are going to make a cannon - specifically, an 1844 howitzer. We will be taking a short field trip (don't anybody faint) to Fort Hamilton within the next few weeks to take a look at that particular gun there. Then we're going to research, design, and build a replica here.

It'll be fun.

Yes. In fact, "oh, yes".

If you mess with the cannon, I hope you enjoy the Scenario From Hell I'm going to program for you each and every time you walk into the Danger Room.

Besides, from an academic perspective, this is unimpeachable. Both a shop project and a history project.

You're not building a cannon on campus. I have Maddy's tranq gun and the ability to turn the darts into homing missiles.

And from an academic perspective, teaching the students to build a weapon is actionable. Just ask Nathan.

Went through law school. Tell Scott he's being a moron and we're going to be sued. Or have war declared.

Um. Well, to be honest, I think it's kind of a cool idea. I mean, cannons!

Okay, you're no longer allowed in this conversation. Go back to doing whatever it is you do all day.

You didn't think I came up with the idea out of the blue, do you? Plenty of other shop classes on different campuses have built cannons as a project.

You'll note I didn't say anything about it being functioning. Except perhaps for a single test, once it's done. It'll depend on how responsibly the students approach the project.

I think you're what's in the vernacular as a spoilsport.

It's a perfectly valid exercise, Lorna. I'm using a lesson plan from Harvard.

I'm going to side with Lorna on this. There's a million wonderful examples of engineering to have the students make - why have them use their skills on a weapon? Might be sending the wrong message there, boss.

See my above comment to Lorna. If you can think of something that satisfies both requirements as effectively, I'm more than willing to entertain the idea. The cannon was just particularly high on the list of suggestions in the resource materials I was looking at, and was particularly simple to implement.

Working elevator. Just sayin'. Hey, did you know Thomas Jefferson totally had one in his house? Okay, well, a dumbwaiter, but isn't that awesome?

Uh, no reason why though. Except I want to know how to make one and I need to take Shop next semester totally.

Instead of Dance. Grr.

Since I'm being all honesty guy today? Um, surprisingly cool, but mostly because it's not a lot of dorky ballet crap and it is a lot of swing and other fast stuff.

I mean, okay, there was some dorky ballet crap in the history of dance part, but the actual dancing doens't involve me on my toes any more than I already am.

it'd be nice if we had our actual teacher instead of a sub though. Kurt's a lot less "Mister Gibney Why Are You So Noisy?" about my claws. And I swear, she talks in all caps just like that.

You know, I might just have to ask Ms. Munroe if I can take pictures of the dance class for the year book...

No embarrassing pictures, I promise, but I'd like to get some nice movement pieces in and it's either that or P.E.

...heeeey.

If you're gonna get pictures, wait until we have a day where we do swing again, or samba. At least for pictures of me. Waltzs and stuff drive me nuts but I samba like whoa.

Ay dios mio, you are not getting pictures of us in uniform. Me when I am dancing circles around the other guys in the class, yes. Me in my PE uniform, no.

I am sad they did not let me keep the hat for it.

Dancing circles around the other guys my big hairy clawed funny looking right foot! Maybe some of the other guys but not this guy! Ballet might still be dorky but dancing like a dweeb is not cool.

I am a damn good dancer.

... I am also going to never live down saying that, but what the hell, this week can't get any more embarassing.
