... this may seem like a weird and possibly rather perverse question, all things considered, but I'm lying here without the ability to concentrate for more than twenty minutes at a time and suffering colossal amounts of boredom, so I figured I'd ask.

All things considered, what's the verdict on the Seattle field trip? It doesn't happen every day, the chance to be right there when momentous events happen. Okay, we get more than our share of those, but you know what I mean. We don't know what might come out of it yet - it's still too soon, although I think the joint statement that came out of the summit certainly looks promising on the level of general principle - but either way, you guys had front-row seats.

I suppose that means the team was in the mosh pit...

To tell you the truth? I was scared out of my wits. Trying to reconcile the different bits of news coverage with what I was actually seeing from the hotel balcony was mindboggling.

I would rather have liked to have actually gotten INTO the conference, stupid riot.

You should have seen what it was like trying to coordinate information on the ground. Nightmarish, really... I'm surprised we got to as many trouble spots as we did.

I suppose I should have been surprised, but I'm not. welcome to another field trip at mutant high.

I am SO jaded.

... that's all you took away from the experience?

well no. but I don't feel like I was actually involved in the conference, not like we had planned for the trip. I didn't even see anything on the news there at the time. Just whatever after-effects were discussed in class or on the news here.

"where were you when Seattle rioted?"
"I was in a triage center up to my elbows in antibiotic ointment"

You had a closer view than most of the others who went on the field trip. What did you wind up writing for your paper?

I thought about just ending it...

One chunk of rioters at a time.

But it was far too dangerous to risk, so I spent my time in other ways.

As far as the summit itself went - more wagging jaws, more staggering displays in insincerity, and as usual a few people trying to do good while everyone else tries to amass power.

There were forty thousand people rioting, Manuel - and that was the conservative police estimate, incidentally. I'm glad you didn't try; I would hated to have seen the effect on you of being immersed in that kind of empathic atmosphere.

I'll give it this

Commercial flying, riot, and being trapped in a hotel for two days aside, it was definitely the most interesting fieldtrip I've ever taken. Made quite the impression. ...Possibly not the one that was intended, but an impression nonetheless.

We're not letting Nathan do field trips anymore. They always end oddly.

If this does even the smallest good for mutant rights, it may have been worth it - though admittedly, I did not leave with injury, so I do not have much of a place to say one way or another.

I think that given a choice, I would have still gone, had I known what was to occur. We were needed there.

I agree. completely.

I did slip and hit my head in the hotel shower. I tried to make up a story about there being two hot blondes in there with me, but no one was buying it.

Managed to save a lot of people, and impressed a group of police officers with my ability to handle stressful situations. Even made some friends. So, despite the whole riot thing, I reckon I came out of that pretty damn well.

Although, can I do some DR training on handling groups of people? Because I think I need to increase my 'people affecting' range. Powers seemed to go wiggy there when we got overwhelmed and I'm not sure if it was because I over stretched myself, or because I'm not used to affecting that many people at once.

Talk to Alison or Ororo about the extra training? I think it'll be a while yet before I'm programming DR scenarios again.

I hated just having to sit back and watch. It was either watch it on tv, watch it out the window, or bash my head against the wall.

That's cause I somehow had both you and Marius in my room. And had to listen to you argue about what channel to watch.
